Please read this important message from the IT and Cyber Security Team regarding the Law Society's ongoing Cyber Security strategy.

Cyber Security

External Mail

As a part of the Law Society’s ongoing Cyber Security Strategy, the following text will now automatically appear at the very start of any email deemed to originate from an external source:

  • ** External Mail - Please Treat Hyperlinks and Attachments With Caution **

This disclaimer quickly identifies when a message is coming from an external sender in order to eliminate guesswork for staff, help identify potential phishing attempts, and bring another level of awareness to all staff regarding email threats. External inbound messages will have this disclaimer.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Even if a message is flagged, it does not mean it is bad or suspicious, just that it originated outside of the Law Society.
  • Email chains: only the first external message will display this disclaimer and it will not appear in any subsequent external messages (in the same chain).
  • Despite best efforts, some emails may still get through all our protections currently in place (especially if pretending to be from a lawsociety.ie address).
  • “Possible Impersonation” tagging may also pick up emails. However, this is a new rule setting which is continually being refined.
  • If you feel something has been tagged incorrectly or is causing a problem, or have any doubts about an email you received, always email DL_IT section.

Thank you and don’t forget - Think Before You Click!  and always err on the side of caution.
