Role of the Committee

The two key functions of the Technology Committee are to monitor developments in technology which are relevant to the legal profession and promote the use of technology as a business resource within the profession. In addition, the Committee provides assistance and advice to individual members on a one-to-one basis throughout the year. Current members are listed below.

Current issues

  • Cyber-security - the Committee is represented on a Working Group, in collaboration with the Regulation of Practice Committee, to examine the role that the Society should play in protecting the profession and clients against the risk of a cyber-attack.
  • Technology and disability inclusion - the Committee is preparing a series of articles on how technology can support workplace inclusions for colleagues with disabilities.
  • eVoting - the Committee is examining the potential for eVoting in the Council Election.
  • Annual Conference The Committee's Annual Conference, Technology and the legal practice, will take place on 9 December 2021. Book your place 
  • Courts Service - The Committee continually engages with the Courts Service on ICT developments affecting practitioners.
  • International engagement - the Committee is represented on relevant committees of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE), the Ad Hoc Committee on Artificial Intelligence (CAHAI), and other bodies.
