Solicitor Catherine Pierse to be next DPP

The Government has appointed solicitor Catherine Pierse to be the next Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

She will succeed the current director, Claire Loftus, when she completes her term of office on 7 November.

Catherine Pierse has extensive experience of working in criminal law, most recently as the head of the Prosecution Support Services division in the DPP’s office.

Qualified in 2001

She previously held legal roles in the Policing Authority, the Central Bank, and the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission.

Educated in UCC and Queen’s University Belfast, the new DPP qualified as a solicitor in 2001.
