Family-court plans can now be inspected

The Office of Public Works (OPW) has given formal notice of its plans to develop the new family-court complex at Hammond Lane in Dublin.

The drawings and details of the development will now be available to the public for inspection for a period of six weeks.

The notice says that the complex will comprise 19 courtrooms and a number of virtual courtrooms, mediation and support facilities, offices, accommodation for judges and staff, custody accommodation, a double ESB sub-station, and all other ancillary accommodation.

The public entrance will be located facing Bow Street/ Smithfield, with a staff entrance on Church Street, and vehicular entrance on Hammond Lane.

Six-week inspection period

For the duration of the works, the existing perimeter fencing at the site will be demolished, and a new temporary hoarding will be constructed.

Those wishing to inspect the drawings and details can do so, with two working days’ notice, between 9.30am and 12.30pm and between 2.30pm and 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, for six weeks (the period between 22 December and 4 January, both days inclusive, will be disregarded).

Inspections will take place at:

  • Major Projects, Office of Public Works, 1GQ, George’s Quay, Dublin 2, and
  • The Courts Service, Phoenix House, 15/24 Phoenix Street, Smithfield, Dublin 7.

All appointments for viewings should be sent to: dfcpart9@courts.ie or dfcpart9@opw.ie.

A report earlier this year suggested that construction on the new family-court complex would not begin until 2026.
