DCU Brexit Institute to assess impact of virus

A discussion entitled 'Legal and constitutional perspectives on the COVID-19 pandemic' will be hosted by DCU’s Brexit Institute and Dublin European Law Institute (DELI).

The event will be an opportunity to take stock of the political, legal, and judicial implications of the pandemic and its impact on constitutional democracy in Europe, which is the core of Horizon Europe REGROUP project work package 6, led by Professor Federico Fabbrini at DCU.

The event opens the 2024/25 academic year and features a keynote speech by Judge Lars Bay Larsen, vice-president of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU).

The seminar takes place in person at Dublin City University, Albert College, Room AG01 on Tuesday 10 September (4pm-6pm) with refreshments served afterwards.

Keynote

In addition to Judge Lars Bay Larsen's keynote speech, the event will include a panel introduced by Dr Tanya Ní Mhuirthile (head of School of Law and Government, DCU), featuring:

  • Dr Wojciech Burek (assistant professor, Institute of European Studies, Jagiellonian University),
  • Dr Pier Domenico Tortola (associate professor of politics, University of Groningen and the Consortium Leader of the Horizon Europe REGROUP project), and
  • Dr Niels Kirst (assistant professor of EU Law, DCU Brexit Institute).

Registration before 3 September is mandatory, and seats will be limited.
