News

The Office of the Planning Regulator (OPR) has released the second edition of its ‘Learning from Litigation’ bulletin. The bulletin highlights key insight from evolving planning and environmental case law, providing information on important precedents, court decisions and emerging trends with an overview of noteworthy planning cases.

The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) has published decisions and recommendations from 7 to 9 December 2023. Cases covered include consideration on the definition of “Registered Medical Practitioner" under the Organisation of Working Time Act, a successful claim for arrears of pay under the Protection of Employees (Temporary Agency Work) Act, 2012, and more.

Coimisiún na Meán (CnaM) has designated ten services in Ireland as video-sharing platforms. As a result, they will be covered by a new Online Safety Code, a draft of which is currently subject to a public consultation.

Resources

At this time of year, in-house colleagues may need to explain to their employers about the need for a Practising Certificate, and their requirement to complete and pay for their practising certificate before the statutory deadline of 1 February each practice year. A Practice Note from the Registrar of Solicitors usefully clarifies the position.

The Law Society Diploma Centre's Spring 2024 programme covers a range of topics relevant to in-house practice. Popular courses include the in Certificate in Charity Law, Trusteeship and Governance, Certificate in Commercial Contracts, Diploma in Corporate Law & Governance and more.

Law Society Skillnet is accepting bookings for its 2024 Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Masterclass. This hybrid course is aimed at all practitioners both in-house and in private practice.
