The Law Society is hosting a discussion on future strategy at the Clayton Hotel in Cork on the evening of 5 October. The purpose of these meetings, as well as other consultations and the survey last May, is to engage with and learn from as many solicitors and stakeholders as possible, so we can more clearly understand the challenges and opportunities for the profession. Then we can use our findings to develop an informed strategy to meet your needs.

The latest Gazette features an examination of the Historic and Archaeological Heritage Bill 2023, which may significantly change existing processes for repatriation and restitution in Ireland.

The international transfer of personal data spun off the information superhighway when the CJEU invalidated Privacy Shield certification as a transfer mechanism in 2020. The Law Society Council Election is being conducted entirely online in 2023 to support representation from across the profession. With nominations closing on 25 September, you can access a recent Information Session on the Council election in video and audio formats, along with a helpful guide to submitting a nomination.

The Law Society’s Human Rights & Equality Committee have recently published a booklet on Bullying, Harassment and Sexual Harassment in the Workplace. The booklet, arising from last year’s Human Rights Conference, highlights the intersection between the need for safe workplace environments and the impact on human rights.

Training

Booking is now open for the Annual In-house and Public Sector Conference. Taking place on Thursday 12 October, this event will explore Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how in-house and public sector lawyers can deal with the new evolving Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) implications with a focus on what is coming down the line.
