News

The Law Society has made a detailed submission on the National Implementation of EU Harmonised Rules on AI (AI Act). The submission recommended that the Government should prioritise constructing a regulatory framework for AI that maximises the efficiency of sectoral expertise, encourages robust stakeholder engagement and the effective resourcing of regulators with finances and human capital, and facilitates coordination between authorities, and that improves access to justice.

Minister of State James Browne TD will lead an Ireland For Law mission to New York on 3 September. The mission will promote Irish Law and the use of Irish legal services to the international business community, particularly for commercial sectors where Ireland is already a world leader.

The German-Irish Lawyers and Business Association (GILBA) Conference 2024 will take place in Kilkenny on 21 September. Topics will include climate action, environmental law, diversity and inclusion.

Resources

Solicitors are invited to the Law Society Psychological Services 2024 Well Within the Law Festival on the theme of Culture First. Taking place on Wednesday 4 September, the festival will explore and celebrate what makes us and our legal workplaces stronger and more connected.

Nominations for the Law Society Council Election are now open and will close on 10 September. If you wish to consider running for election, you can access some tips from previous successful candidates and information about the election process.

Training

On 2 October, the In-house and Public Sector Committee and Law Society Professional Training will host the annual in-house and public sector conference. It will be held at the Law Society from 9.30 am to 1.15 pm, and aims to explore the role of lawyers in business and management and the art of leading in-house teams. It will be an excellent opportunity for in-house solicitors in the private and public sectors to meet colleagues in person.
