News

Revenue is currently holding free online events through Eventbrite to give an overview of Enhanced Reporting Requirements (‘ERR’) for expenses/benefits paid to employees or directors. In-house practitioners may wish to attend these events to learn more, or share details with their colleagues.

The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) has published decisions and recommendations from 4 to 12 September 2023. Cases covered include a doctor's unsuccessful complaint over a failure to be placed on a higher salary scale, an award of €50,255 for discrimination on the grounds of disability, and more.

Unconscious bias and its influence on decisions and judgments should not be underestimated. In the latest Gazette, Conor Kennedy looks at the impact of bias in tax-dispute decisions – and the steps practitioners can take to help achieve objective determinations.

Resources

This year’s Council Election will take place through electronic voting from 20 October until 2 November. A short informational video is now available showing how the system will work, and what you will need to vote.

Training

A range of conferences taking place this quarter will cover diverse areas of practice that will be of interest to many in-house solicitors. Conferences include the annual property law update, litigation update, and more.

Applications close soon for the Law Society Diploma Centre's Certificate in Trade Mark Law. Launching in November, this course offers an in-depth understanding of the legal issues pertaining to trade mark law, and sound basis for preparing for the registered trade mark agent exam offered by the Intellectual Property Office of Ireland.
