Mary Hallissey reports on this year’s In-house Conference for the December 2023 Gazette. The Conference heard that the ‘human in the loop’ must keep control of artificial intelligence.

The Central Bank has published final guidelines on how it will implement stronger powers to investigate and sanction firms or individuals for breaches of financial-services legislation. The publication follows a 12-week consultation process on the Administrative Sanctions Procedure (ASP).

Practice Direction HC 124, came into force from 11 December. It revokes Practice Direction HC119 and establishes the Planning and Environment List.

Resources

The Law Society will continue to offer a Group Life Assurance Scheme in 2024, open to Practising Certificate holders, solicitors in full-time service of the State, judges and county registrars. The Scheme has been placed with Aviva and conditions apply.

Training

The Law Society Diploma Centre's Certificate in Company Secretarial Law and Practice, offered in partnership with CGI Ireland, commences on 7 February 2024.
