General counsel have a tough task in managing green concerns, a recent In-House and Public Sector Committee webinar heard. Mary Hallissey reports on the Committee’s annual panel discussion for the July 2022 Gazette.

The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) has published its decisions and recommendations from 23 May to 3 June. Cases covered include a claim for discrimination on grounds of race following questions at interview, a recommendation for compensation for unfair treatment of an employee with less than a year's service, and more.

In the latest Gazette, Brian Robinson looks at the practical implications of 'unauthorised but immune' developments, and considers ‘Why should an unauthorised developer be rewarded just because they have managed to evade enforcement under the seven-year rule?’

Content in the Diploma Centre's Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is available until 29 July. Focused on employment law and remote working, it covers topics including the right to request remote working, the right to disconnect, professional wellbeing, health and safety considerations, data protection concerns as well as the great resignation.

Resources

A number of new books in the Law Society Library are highly relevant to in-house practice. Highlights include Clark's publishing agreements: a book of precedents by Lynette Owen, The law of compulsory purchase by Richard Honey, Aircraft Financing by Rob Murphy and more.

Training

On 12 October, the In-house and Public Sector Committee and Law Society Skillnet will host the annual in-house Conference online. This year’s webinar will focus on two themes: ESG and sustainability and the Employment Shift post pandemic. Speaker’s presentations will be followed by an interactive panel discussion with expert panelists from both private and public sector legal departments.

In addition to established programmes such as the Diploma in Construction Law, Diploma in Education Law and Certificate in Immigration Law and Practice, the Centre has added additional courses including the Certificate in Agribusiness and Food Law, Diploma in Sports Law, Diploma in Technology and IP Law, and more.
