Booking opens soon for the Law Society Conference 2023. Taking place on 12 May at Mount Juliet, Co. Kilkenny, the event will focus on the future of the legal profession along with the sustainability of practices and legal careers. Members will have the opportunity to engage in dialogue and breakout sessions over the course of the conference.

The Law Reform Commission (LRC) has published a Consultation Paper on Liability of Clubs, Societies and other Unincorporated Associations. The Consultation Paper examines issues relating to civil and criminal liability, including matters of regulatory compliance and enforcement. If possible, submissions or comments are requested before close of business on 15 March 2023.

What should leadership look like in the era of remote working? In the latest Gazette, Dr Melrona Kirrane examines ‘e-leadership’ in the context of corporate democracy, and how to establish a satisfying social climate where team spirit and a sense of unity prevail.

Resources

Solicitors can access a range of Law Society resources to help when renewing their Practising Certificate (PC) online. These include a demonstration of the form, a recorded Q&A with practitioners, and other useful guidance.

At this time of year, in-house colleagues may need to explain to their employers about the need for a Practising Certificate and the application process. A new Practice Note from the Registrar of Solicitors usefully clarifies the position.

Training

On 10 May the In-house and Public Sector Committee and Law Society Finuas Skillnet will host the annual in-house Panel Discussion. It will be held at the Law Society from 2 pm to 4.30 pm, and will be an excellent opportunity for in-house solicitors in the private and public sectors to meet their colleagues in-person. The theme will be Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) with an emphasis on diversity. Details, including the Brochure and Booking Form, will be available on the Society’s website next month.

You might also like to save the date for the Committee’s Annual Conference on 12 October.

Social Media

In-house solicitors can connect and network with colleagues across organisations using a private LinkedIn group.
