  • The annual ACC Europe conference takes place virtually from 25 to 27 May, offered at a significantly reduced rate of €125 for Law Society members.   • A new Skills Connect initiative developed by Law Society Finuas Skillnet, in partnership with Skillnet Ireland, supports solicitors who are out of work and who would like to develop a new specialism in construction law. Find out more about Skills Connect
  • The European Commission has adopted a Communication on Business Taxation for the 21st century. It sets out both long-term and short-term visions, taking account of the progress made in the G20/OECD discussions on global tax reform. View the EU Commission announcement
  • Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has extended eligibility for the €60m Small Business Assistance Scheme for COVID (SBASC) to include businesses operating from a non-rateable premise like a home business or yard. The Tánaiste is also relaunching the Micro Enterprise Assistance Scheme so that businesses with a turnover of less than €50,000 can apply for a grant of €1,000 to help with fixed costs, to include legal fees.   • On 6 May, Crowe Ireland (on behalf of the Law Society) issued the Dignity Matters survey to everyone on the Roll of Solicitors who has ever practised in Ireland. If you have not received your individual survey link, it can be resent to you. See what to do
  • The Law Society is inviting applications for both mentors and mentees for this year’s Women in Leadership mentoring programme. Expressions of interest must be received by Friday 25 June 2021. Find out more and apply

Training

  • The In-house and Public Sector Committee and Law Society Finuas Skillnet have organised a panel discussion on Remote Working and the In-house Solicitor. This live webinar on 27 May will cover topics including employment law obligations around remote work, the future of the office, the right to switch off, and running cases remotely. Book your place
  • The Diploma Centre's free Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), focusing on environmental law and climate change, began on Tuesday 18 May, but you can still join in. Topics covered include many issues relevant to in-house practice, including renewable energy, enforcement of environmental regulations, and more. Join the MOOC
